Weaving/Woven is a proposal for a natural and recycled composite fiber
research facility where research, manufacturing, and testing processes
are closely coupled with a public arm that incorporates exhibition,
demonstration, and presentation around and throughout the private
activities of the facility.

Massing
Massing
The building references the existing structures on site by deploying strategically pitched and angled roofs to cultivate new spatial and structural orders. The newly proposed steel structural framing system draws off of more contemporary, if highly conventional, warehouse and factory building systems.
This massing proposal creates a trio of new volumes with circulation paths that weave through the building connect these bars as they converge, diverge, and move vertically through the project, introducing visitors to both the work of the laboratories and offices and the factory floors.

Program
The programs are arranged to connect three different experiences of observing, learning, and propagating new knowledge about the composite fiber and its manufacture back to the community. Private manufacturing and testing programs are limited to a single floor and are pragmatically arranged for the anticipated movement, use, and service of heavy equipment and materials necessary for manufacturing and testing activities. Public program is organized around and through existing shed and private program to augment the didactic character of the demonstration, exhibition, and presentation spaces. These spaces intermingle with labs and offices.

Sew 3 Mass Together
The building is wrapped by the layers of lattice structures that have different thicknesses to mimic a woven fabric structure. The lattices are laid out and projected on facade of each side to emphasize the continuity of the building mass composition.
